Pinnacle RateMapper® is a Visual Basic based competitive analysis model designed for use with Quadrant’s MAPpro® premium comparison information for personal auto and homeowners. It not only displays rate comparisons for risks defined by the user, but also generates a variety of visual tools helpful in going beyond the data to identify areas where competitive problems exist. A competitive analysis typically begins with the production of premium comparison charts for a set of target risk profiles. However, sorting through all the resulting data and paper can be overwhelming. A much clearer picture can be immediately gained by using RateMapper to produce color maps which provide a graphic display of your competitive position.
With RateMapper, you have the ability to quickly view your competitive position versus selected competitors across an entire state without digging through all of the data files. You will be able to see the percentage by which your rates are higher or lower than the chosen competitors across the entire state.

Relativity Analysis
Further detailed analysis identifies elements of the rating plan which are actually causing premium differences. This is where a relativity analysis can help. Our relativity analysis provides exhibits for the major rating variables adjusted to a common base, which facilitates the identification of areas of competitive advantage or disadvantage. Exhibits are produced for the major rating variables, including:
- Limits
- Territory
- Driver Class
- Symbol/Deductible/Model Year Factors
- Discounts/Surcharges
- Amount of Insurance
- Protection Class
Territory Mapping
RateMapper creates territory boundary maps electronically for use in either PCArcView or MapInfo mapping software. These files allow us to identify areas where mismatch of territory definitions create either competitive advantage or competitive disadvantage.
The boundary files can also be combined with other geographic boundaries, such as zip codes, townships and cities. This capability allows us to incorporate demographic data for target marketing.
