The Year in Review

Joe Herbers December 15, 2017 Posted in: Blog Posts, General, News

Pinnacle has enjoyed a highly successful 2017. We have added ten new full-time employees this year and now have 28 credentialed actuaries on staff, with another two actuarial analysts anticipating earning their Associate credential of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) in the spring of 2018.

The firm significantly elevated its public profile throughout 2017 via highly-visible public studies, our ongoing APEX webinar series, articles, blogs and professional papers. Pinnacle frequently appeared in the news for its work involving:

  • Review of ProPublica’s study on insurance affordability
  • Examination of the state of Michigan’s no-fault system costs
  • Examination of the state of Florida’s PIP coverage
  • Top-to-bottom review of the United States Department of Health & Human Services’ mortgage portfolios
  • Examination of the state of Maryland’s Birth Injury Fund (with Johns Hopkins)
  • Expert witness testimony in several matters involving enterprise risk captives
  • Podium presentations on a wide variety of topics such as disruptive innovation, emerging risks, predictive analytics, group captives and professionalism

Pinnacle markedly increased its visibility in a variety of additional venues in 2017:

  • Principal and Consulting Actuary Rob Walling was named one of Captive Review’s Captive Power 50
  • Consulting Actuary Katey Walker was elected to the CAS Board of Directors
  • Numerous Pinnacle employees were actively involved in over 50 industry trade shows and professional meetings
  • A.M. Best’s annual Best’s Review readership study recognized Pinnacle’s new advertising campaign as being more memorable than others

As Pinnacle’s staff continues to grow, so does our foundational expertise and bench strength. The firm’s actuarial analysts are developing rapidly, enthusiastic to apply their knowledge and skills to become tomorrow’s project managers. Our consultants continue to develop their entrepreneurial skills while carrying forward their collaborative efforts toward making the fabric of our firm even stronger.

Our ongoing geographic expansion included Legaré Gresham’s establishing Pinnacle’s presence in Charleston, South Carolina, while the firm continued to widen its San Francisco Bay Area footprint.

I am very optimistic about Pinnacle’s future and can’t wait to see what 2018 holds.
